David Mitchell Ury, 64, of Jonesboro, IL, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023, surrounded by his family after a courageous year battling cancer.
David was born on March 27, 1959, to Robert Ury and Mary Helen Cerny Ury in Jonesboro, IL. After David graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1977, he attended Shawnee Community College and worked as an EMT for the Union County Ambulance Service.
After graduating from the University of Missouri Rolla with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1984, David started working for the City of St. Louis, MO, kickstarting a 39-year career in electrical engineering. David went on to work in Paducah, KY, at Marcum Engineering, LLC, finishing his career as an owner of the company and a Principal Electrical Engineer. David was passionate about seeing his projects come to life and truly enjoyed working alongside his colleagues.
In 1988, David married Alice Chamness. David and Alice went on to have two wonderful children, Ethan and Erica Ury.
David was proud to have been raised and live on a family farm. He enjoyed the outdoors, raising his cattle, cutting firewood, making hay, and all the other chores that came along with it. He loved vacationing with his family, laughing, and making memories.
David is survived by his wife, Alice Ury, of Jonesboro, IL; son, Ethan Ury, of Jonesboro, IL; daughter, Erica Ury (John Asher) of Knoxville, TN; brother, Scott (Carolyn) Ury, of Anna, IL; sister, Susan (Dave) Diehl of Centralia, IL; many other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, along with his mother and father-in-law, Fred and Norma Chamness.
He was a member of Mt. Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna, IL.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Bill Littrell officiating. Family and friends may gather from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023, at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Southeast Cancer Center or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hospice of Southern Illinois and Dr. Andrew Dickey, as well as the staff at Southeast Cancer Center, for their support and compassionate care of David.
