David J. “Butch” Cook, age 80 of Anna, passed away at Mercy Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO on December 28, 2025 at 2:50 a.m., surrounded by his family. David was born July 17, 1945 at home in Cobden, the son of David and Helen (Adams) Cook. He married Frances Tucker on December 27, 1964 in Cobden. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2022.
David is survived by their children, David (Janet) Cook, Jr., Scott Cook, and Amanda (Chris) Fowler; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mabel Ann Hill, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Frances Cook, sister, Neomia Means, brother, Robert Allan Cook, and two nephews, Robert D. Hill and Jeff Hill.
David spent many years working for the Illinois Central Railroad and retired from Canadian National Railroad. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. David treasured spending time with his family and friends at Sunday dinners and cookouts. He was the past governor of the Anna Moose Lodge 1346 where he earned his Pilgram Degree, past master of the Cobden Masonic Lodge 466, and a proud member of the Ainad Shriners.
Funeral services for David J. “Butch” Cook will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Pastor Bobbi Schultz officiating. Interment will follow in the Cobden Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Army Funeral Honors Team and the Caroll P. Foster Post 3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. Visitation will be held 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or Mooseheart Child City & School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
