Mr. Clinton E. Shelton, age 80 of Jonesboro, died at 5:15 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born February 24, 1933, in Elco, IL, the son of Ray and Mary Poole Shelton. He married Erma Sims on June 30, 1995 in Jonesboro. Clinton is survived by his loving wife, Erma Shelton of Jonesboro; two daughters, Judy (Charlie) Martin of Wickliffe, KY, Lori (Greg) Klein of Jonesboro; one step-son, Ray Wilson of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, Chris and Nathaniel Hargrove, Ethan Klein, Emily Newby; two step-grandchildren, Michael Wilson and Heath Tellor; three great grandchildren, Sara Vinyard, Abby Hargrove and Piper Hargrove; two step great grandchildren, Matthew Wilson and Dylan Wilson; one great-great grandchild Kennedy Walters; one sister, Margaret Whybark of East Prairie, MO; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Clinton E. Shelton Jr; step daughter, Wendy Tellor; four sisters, Helen Shelton, Charlotte Shelton, Loretta Burns, May Francis Shelton; and one brother Harley Shelton. Clinton was a member of the Elco Baptist Church for many years. He retired from Hanna Sign Company in Cairo after thirty years of service making neon signs. He later worked for Penn Sign Company in Yuma AZ, and retired in 1998 after fifteen years. Clinton proudly served his country in the United States Army in the 285th Artillery in Fort Brag North Carolina. He was sent to Yucca Flats, Nevada. He participated in the testing of the atomic bomb, known as operation Plum Bob. Funeral services for Mr. Clinton E. Shelton will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Rev. Joe Aldridge officiating. Interment will be in the St. John's Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elco Baptist Church or to the St. John's Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro.
