Clifton Deon Davis

    Clifton Deon Davis, age 90 of Dongola, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026 at his home, surrounded by family. He was born March 24, 1936 to Clifford H. Davis and Zelma Lyerla Davis Lowery on the Lyerla family farm below Jonesboro where he spent most of his early years.

    Deon married Barbara E. Keller on February 23, 1957. His wife of 69 years, Barbara E. Davis of Dongola, survives him. She was his loving and devoted caregiver. He is also survived by his two daughters, Belinda (William) Hatfield of Anna and Debra (Mark) RedCloud of Bloomfield, MO; grandchildren, Ashley (Stephen) Hatfield Head of Anna, Michael (Missy) RedCloud of Bloomfield, MO, Nikki (Tony) RedCloud of Evansville, IN, and Cody (Liz) RedCloud of Bloomfield, MO; great-grandchildren, Colton Head, Zada RedCloud, Mali Bratcher, Emma Johnson and Emma RedCloud; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

    Deon attended Anna-Jonesboro High School and worked mowing lawns and delivering newspapers for the Gazette-Democrat in his younger days. He went to work for Caterpillar in Peoria and B.F. Goodrich. He drove a truck for E. H. Davis Trucking and operated heavy equipment at the Jonesboro and Ullin Quarries. He later went to work for Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative for 25 years as a lineman before his retirement.

    Deon was a 50-year member of the IBEW and Local 318 Operating Engineers. He was also a member of the Dongola Masonic Lodge No. 581 and the Anna Masonic Lodge No. 111. He was ordained as a deacon at the Dongola First Baptist Church on September 30, 1979

    In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and racing go-karts. He spent many summer days boating and water skiing with his family and friends on Dongola Lake.

    Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Interment will follow in the Anna Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12:00 noon until the service at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Dongola or the Union County Ambulance Service. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
