Mr. Clifford J. "Dick" Sadler, age 87 of Anna, died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012 in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. He was born February 11, 1925 in Ware, the son of Irvin and Velma Wildy Sadler. He married Reba A. (Keller) Jerrell on January 1, 1949 in Cornith, MS. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2003.Dick is survived by his step son, Bronel (Marilyn)Jerrell of Drumfries, Virginia; two grandchildren, Cindy (Quinton Phillips) Jewell of Watkinsville, Georgia, Tracy (Kevin) McKenna of Dumfries, Virginia; three great grandchildren, Shawn, Ryan and Jenna McKenna; four brothers, Jerry Sadler and Larry Sadler both of Anna, Paul Sadler of Dongola, Eddie Sadler of Buncombe; six sisters, Freda Purcell of Michigian, Barbara McCarver of Buncombe, Lois Cruse and Judy Dillow both of Anna, JoAnn Peterman of Jonesboro and Linda Osman of Cypress; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Reba Sadler; five brothers, William, Bill, Joe, James & Daniel Sadler; and one sister, Lola Vincent. Dick proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He participated in the atomic test at Bikini Atoll. Dick was a life member of the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna. He was an active member serving on numerous committees and involved in the works of the Post. He was voted Veteran of the Year in 2006. He owned and operated the Anna Livestock Exchange for several years. He co-owned the White Horse Inn on the Jonesboro Square for many years. Dick served as the Marshal and later as the Chief of Police for the Jonesboro Police Department and as a volunteer fireman with the City of Jonesboro. Dick had a beloved white horse named "King" that he rode to lead parades, services and events at the Union County Fair. Funeral services for Mr. Clifford J. "Dick" Sadler will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Rev. Mike Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Casper Cemetery with graveside military funeral honors conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F. W. in Anna and the Funeral Honors Team of Marion. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home activity fund. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
