Charles W. Harwell, age 84 of Anna, died Thursday, July 11, 2019 at his home. He was born October 20, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, TX, the son of Willie D. and Eleanor (Redfearn) Harwell. He married his true love, Jennifer West in 1978 in Mobile, AL. Charles is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Harwell of Anna; sister, Betty Ballew of Texas; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Charles was a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, and later the Princeton School of Divinity. He was ordained as a Presbyterian Minister and served many years as the Chaplin at Louisiana State University. Charles later turned to teaching, finishing his career as a teacher in English and Writing in South Alabama. He was an accomplished author publishing 3 textbooks and various other works. Charles was a lifelong tennis player. He and his wife Jennifer were active in the University Community Theater, both enjoying acting and participating for many years. A celebration of Charles's life will be from 4 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2019 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Memorial remembrances will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday.
