Charles W. Goforth

Charles W. Goforth, age 84 of Jonesboro, died Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Union County Hospital in Anna. He was born August 29, 1937 the son of Charles Edward and Mary (Bagley) Goforth. He married Barbara K. Connell on May 26, 1957 in Mounds. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2012. He later married Lovye (Bedwell) Young on December 16, 2013 in Anna. Charles is survived by his wife, Lovye Goforth of Anna; children, Chuck (Sherri) Goforth of Anna, Angela Goforth Battles of Granite City, Charles E. (Tammy) Young of Linton, IN, Debra (Mark) Payne of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Blake Goforth, Brent (AliceAnn) Goforth, Brock (Sarah) Goforth, Taylor, Brady and Emily Battles, Chris (Alisa) Payne, Ethan (Natalie) Payne, Allison Young (Matt) Williams, Joel Young; great-grandchildren, Rylie and Carter Payne, Samuel and Zack Williams; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Barbara K. Goforth; and sister, Joann Goforth Thompson. Charles was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church for many years. He previously was a member of the First Baptist Church in Thebes and Jonesboro. For over thirty years he worked in the Egyptian School Distract as a teacher, coach and school administrator. He loved reading, baseball, softball and playing golf. He was a member of the UCCC and Gideon Society for many years. He was a collector of all things especially antiques. Charles was a wonderful, loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by so many. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the Anna Heights Baptist Church with Pastor Darryl Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Anna Heights Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
