Charles E. Girtman

Charles E. Girtman, age 85 of Makanda, formerly of Percy, died on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born October 8, 1935 in Union County the son of Coy and Dorothy Mae (Little) Girtman. He married Sue Johnston on June 3, 2000 in Gatlinburg, TN. Charles is survived by his wife Sue Girtman of Murphysboro; son, Bradley Dean Girtman of Makanda; daughter, Heather Lynn Housman of Murphysboro; grandchildren, Chelsea Housden and Caitlin Rogers; great grandchildren, Izzy, Ivy, and Iris Rogers, and Salem Housden; sisters, Donna (Bud) Duty of Cobden and Judith (Charles) Bollinger of Lansing, MI; brother Coy "Bud" (Kaye) Girtman of Goreville; sister in law, JoAnn Girtman of Cobden; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Rosalie Girtman; brothers, Joe and Howard "Tom" Girtman; sister, Maxine Girtman. Charles served in the United States Air Force during the war in Korea. He worked for many years as a purchasing agent for various companies. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 at the Cobden Cemetery in Cobden with Pastor Steve Duncan officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 until 2:00 pm Tuesday at the cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carrol P. Foster Post #3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Scott Air Force Base Honor Guards. Interment will immediately follow.
