Mr. Charles F. "Bud, Rabbit" Kimmel, age 83 of Carterville, formerly of Wolf Lake, passed away at 3:10 a.m. Sunday, December 19, 2010 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born December 18, 1927 in Wolf Lake, the 12th child of Clarence S. and Pearlie Lindsey Kimmel. He married Maurine S. Smith on December 15, 1950 in Jonesboro, this year celebrating 60 years of marriage. Charles is survived by his wife, Maurine of Carterville; one daughter, Linda (Ken) Palmer of Houston, TX.; four grandchildren, Elissa Johnson of Minneapolis, MN., Kyle Johnson of Carterville, Jonathan and Lindsey Palmer of Houston, TX.; three sisters, Lorraine Judd and Ruth Smith of Franklin, TN., Beatrice Sensmeier of Mansfield, OH.; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Nancy Johnson; seven brothers, Harold Quinton in infancy, Bill, Alfred, Cyril, Cyrus, John Howard and Frances who was killed in W.W. II; two sisters, Mina Abernathy and Daisy Long. Charles was a member of the International Association of Bridge, Structural and Ornamental Iron Worker's Labor Local Union No. 595, AFL-CIO, SEIU Labor Local, and served as President of the OCA Local No. 7581 for 18 years. Charles also served four years as a Quartermaster Signalman in the U. S. Navy from 1945 to 1949 aboard the U.S.S. Jason and the U.S.S. Navasota in the South Pacific. He was a life-long member of Galilee Baptist Church at Wolf Lake, Illinois. He served in many roles including Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday school Teacher, and always volunteered to serve in whatever role was needed. He was a faithful member who served until he became too ill. Charles always enjoyed taking part in the activities of his family, spent many years farming in Wolf Lake, and he never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.Funeral Services for Mr. Charles F. "Bud, Rabbit" Kimmel will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Interment will be in the Anna Cemetery with military honors at the graveside by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois National Guard Honor Team in Marion. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. and until the funeral hour on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Hospital in Houston, Texas. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
