Carl Elbert Sellars

Carl Elbert Sellars, age 85 of Cobden, died Wednesday, July 24, 2019 in the Marion V.A. Medical Center. He was born September 20, 1933 in Marion, the son of John Louie and Lucille Lorrain (Toler) Sellars. He married Rose Marie Elder on December 19, 1953 at the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cobden. She preceded him in death on December 26, 1989. Carl is survived by his three children, Carl (Cindy) Sellars of Vienna, Louis Edgar (Teresa) Sellars of Cobden, Clair Lorraine Melton of Austin, TX; son in law, Roger Hileman of Jonesboro; ten grandchildren, Melissa Elaine (Jason) Lewis, Miranda Galadriel Sellars, Dustin Shane Sellars, Victoria Michelle McElroy, Zachary Lane (Kiley) Hileman, Aaron John David (Lacey) Sellars, Austin James Dean (Krysti) Sellars, Alexander Josiah Dane (Cyndi) Sellars, Annie Lorrane Melton, Antonio Gabriel Melton Molina; thirteen great-grandchildren; siblings, Emma Lou Crews, Daisy Crowe, Richard Sellars, Lawrence Sellars and David Sellars; very special friend, Mary Sue Treece; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose Sellars; daughter, Renee Diane Hileman; siblings, John, Charlie, Harmon, Donald, Peggy, and Lora. Carl was a life member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Cobden. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 to 1972, during both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He retired after twenty years as a CTRC. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2019 in the Makanda Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Navy Funeral Honor Detail. Friends may call after 12:00 p.m. and until the service hour at 2:00 p.m. in the Makanda Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
