Carl Baltzell

Mr. Carl Baltzell, age 96 of Cobden, died at 12:06 A.M. Saturday October 30, 2010 at Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois. He was born April 2, 1914 in Alto Pass, the son of Everett D. and Eva A. Lindsey Baltzell. He married Bessie Hedgpeth in 1935 in Jonesboro. She preceded him in death in 1999. Carl is survived by 1 daughter, Fran Chastain of Sorrento, FL; 2 grandchildren, Pama Leigh Mansfield and Marc Chastain; 4 great grandchildren, Andrew, Rachael, and Emily Chastain, and Grace Mansfield; one sister, Edna Tellor of Carbondale; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bessie; a son, Carl David Baltzell; 4 sisters, Vera McRoberts, Mildred Lyerla, Lewanda Eastwood, and Ethel Imogene Fox; and 3 brothers, Lloyd, Howard, and Denzil Baltzell.Carl loved the outdoors, especially the Hudgens Creek area where he was born and raised. He enjoyed being on the farm and gardening and walking through the woodlands.Graveside services for Mr. Carl Baltzell will be held at 11:00 A. M. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Alto Pass Cemetery. Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:00 A. M. to 10:45 A.M., Tuesday, November 2, 2010 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Alto Pass.
