Calvin J. Maginel, age 94 of Jonesboro, died Wednesday, July 31, 2019 in the Illinois Veteran's Home in Anna. He was born October 2, 1924 in Chicago, the son of James A and Constance Cora (Was) Maginel. He married Catherine A. Stearns on August 13, 1949 in Kaukauna, WI. She preceded him in death on June 11, 2016. Calvin is survived by his four sons, Jim (Mary) Maginel of Cape Girardeau, MO, Dave (Marianne) Maginel of Olive Branch, Dan Maginel and Miguel Pou of Sitges, Spain, John (Paige) Maginel of Perks; four grandchildren, Calvin III, Katie, Bryce, Henry; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and loving wife, Catherine A. Maginel. Calvin honorably served his country in the United States Army during WWII, where he was awarded the bronze star and knighthood in the French Legion of Honor. He spent his career as an Optometrist until retirement. He was an Eagle Scout, and a member of the A-J Rotary Club (Paul Harris Fellow), American Legion Galva Post #45, 75th Infantry Division Veterans Association, Masonic Lodge, VFW, and American Optometric Association. Private graveside services will be held in the Pine Grove of the Lost 40. Memorials may be made to Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, Anna- Jonesboro Rotary Club, Friends of the Cache, Illinois Native Plant Society, or This Able Veteran. Memorial envelopes will be available at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
