Mr. Benson Treece Poirier, age 35 of Makanda, died at 2:37 p.m. Monday, May 18, 2015 in Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, after a long battle with heart disease. He was born August 29, 1979 in Carbondale, the son of Benson D. and Lynn A. Treece Poirier. Benson is survived by his parents, Benson D. and Lynn A. Poirier of Makanda; sister, Erin T. Poirier of Carbondale; Christina Poirier, sons, Gunnar and Benson and daughter Margaret; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents. Benson was a construction laborer with Laborers Local 773. He was a graduate of Carbondale Community High School; John A. Logan College and a member of the SIU Marching Salukis. The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the Cardiovascular and LVAD teams at Prairie Heart Institute and Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago for their tireless efforts and caring support during his illness. And a special thank you to Carol Clark-Kutscher for her promotion and advocacy toward the well being of our son. According to his wishes, Mr. Benson Treece Poirier will be cremated. Interment will be private in the Casper Cemetery.
