Barbara Ann Nance, age 89 of Carbondale, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Manor Court in Carbondale. She was born on December 11, 1935, in Saline County, the daughter of Gene and Hazel (Harbinson) Clark. She married George Johnson on April 8, 1955. She later married Kenneth Nance on May 9, 1997. He preceded her in death on May 25, 2024.
Barbara is survived by her children, Georgia Jackson, Rhonda Hughey and Randall (Sandy) Johnson; step-children, Elaine (Jay) Ross and Dennis (Diane) Nance; grandchildren, Lora Jackson, Kyle (Amy) Hughey, Kelly Snyder and Marshall (Andrea) Snyder; step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Jim) Colacecchi, Jason (Audra) Ross, Melanie (Darrel) Hartline, Courtney Ross, Brandon Nance, Tasha Edwards, Steven Nance and Jon Nance; great-grandchildren, Savannah, Adalee, Jasmine, Toby, Tyson, Lily, Audrey (Toby), Samuel and Storme; step great-grandchildren, Brianna (Daniel), Faith, Chloe and Braden; great-great grandchildren, Charlotte, Ruthie, Troy, Kyler, Everly and Eliza; brothers, Gerald (Carol) Lackman, Fred (Barbara) Lackman and Calvin (Tommie) Lackman; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; step-sons, Kenny and Faron Nance; step great-grandson, Noah Ross-Cheatham; sister, Betty McDonnough and brother, Coy Lackman.
Barbara was a member of the Makanda Baptist Church. She and Kenneth greatly enjoyed attending church as well as the music jam in Ullin. She loved entertaining and cooking, both at home and work. For many years, she was the deli manager at National Foods in Carbondale. Later she worked as a housekeeper for the Harry L. Crisp family in Marion.
Funeral services for Barbara Ann Nance will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna with Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until the service time at 11:00 am Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to the Makanda Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home.
