Ann L. Michels

Ann L. Michels, age 97 of Anna, died Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Union County Hospital Long Term Care. She was born February 21, 1921 in Anna, the daughter of August and Hedwig (Pickle) Bruchhauser. She married Elbert O. Michels on June 5, 1941. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1991. Ann is survived by her daughter Janice Stephens and friend (Bill Adams) of Crestview, FL; son James Michels of Ocala, FL; daughter Cathy (Jerry) Dillow of Jonesboro; grandchildren Lindsey (Dustin) Poole of New Concord, KY; and Laura Ann (Kevin) Pingel of Cape Girardeau; six great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents August and Hedwig (Pickle) Bruchhauser; her husband Elbert O. Michels, great-granddaughter Reece LeeAnn Pingel; brother William "Bill" Bruchhauser; and infant sisters Anna W. and Ethel H. Bruchhauser. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 80 years, and helped with the LWML organization. Her mother had played the pump organ at the church, but passed the responsibility to Ann when a new pump organ was purchased. She continued to play the organ for the church for 50 years. She lived in Anna most of her life and was actively involved in several community organizations including working with the Union County Red Cross and the Anna Chamber of Commerce. Her family owned and operated Phoenix Flour Mills, which was an active local industry for much of the 20th century. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna with Pastor Tim Weiser officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. and until the service hour at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2019 in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna. Envelopes will be available at the Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home and at the Trinity Lutheran Church.
